Denise Hien, Ph.D., Executive Director & Principal Investigator Lisa Cohen, Ph.D., Research Program Director Aimee Campbell, MSW, Research Coordinator Dr. Litt is a Clinical Psychologist and is Clinical Director of the Womens Health Project Treatment and Research Center, where she oversees the programs clinical services and professional training. She is also Assistant Clinical Professor of Medical Psychology in Psychiatry at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and has served as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology and Education at Columbia University Teachers College. Dr. Litt has expertise working with individuals traumatized in childhood or adulthood and is trained in several methods developed specifically for the treatment of traumatic stress and/or addiction. She has been director, trainer and supervisor of numerous psychotherapy research studies funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism exploring effective treatments for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and co-occurring substance use disorders for women. She has co-authored articles contributing to this field and has recently co-authored a book entitled Trauma Services for Women in Substance Abuse Treatment, published by the APA Press. Dr. Litt has presented at national and international conferences on the research on and clinical applications of co-occurring issues related to traumatic stress and addiction. Using integrated models of treatment, Dr Litt maintains her private practice in New York City. She received her B.A. and B. S. in Economics from The University of Pennsylvania, and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University. Ms. Johnson is currently the Social Work Supervisor at the Women's Health Project. I previously worked as the Senior Social Worker at the Community Counseling and Mediation Mental Health and Substance Abuse Clinics practicing individual and family therapy to children, adolscents and adults. Prior to this I worked as a Social Worker at Long Island College Hospital Rape Crisis Intervention/Victims of Violence Program practicing individual and group therapy to survivors of rape, incest, and domestic violence. I also worked in the hospital's Emergency Department providing crisis intervention and advocacy to survivors of rape and domestic violence. Denise Hien, Ph.D.,Executive Director, Center for Trauma and Addiction Dr. Hien is a professor of Clinical Psychology at City University of New York and maintains a joint appointment as a senior research scientist in the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. She is also the founding executive director of the Womens Health Project in the Department of Psychiatry at St. Lukes Roosevelt Hospital Center, a specialty treatment program for women with trauma and addictions which serves as a training center for pre and post-doctoral psychology, social work and psychiatry fellows. Over the past 17 years with continuous funding from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, Office of Research on Womens Health, and National Institute on Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse (18 grants total: 6 R01, 1 Multi-site), she and her team have conducted research that has helped to characterize the psychosocial and diagnostic correlates of interpersonal violence among inner-city minority women and their families. She has also contributed to science on the treatment of trauma-related disorders with substance comorbidity, conducting single and multi-site clinical trials across the United States in community-based substance abuse treatment settings. Dr. Hien has authored, co-authored and presented extensively in scientific journals, and at national and international conferences. She is considered a leader in the field of womens trauma and addiction treatment and has recently published a new book (January 2009) with her collaborators on the subject with the American Psychological Association Press, offering practical support to community providers and programs who want to integrate trauma services for women in substance abuse treatment. Dr. Hien is also an attending psychologist in the Department of Psychiatry at St. Lukes Roosevelt Hospital Center. She maintains a private practice on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Dr. Hien completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology at Cornell University in 1984, and received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University in 1992. Cohen, Ph.D. , Research Director, Center for Trauma and Addiction Dr. Cohen is the Research Program Director overseeing the development and ongoing activities of research projects at CTA and Co-Investigator on the NIDA and NIAAA funded treatment studies currently running at the Center. She is a clinical psychologist with an appointment of Research Scientist at the New York State Psychiatric Institute, Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Cohen is also a clinical supervisor for graduate students at City College and advisor for undergraduate psychology students participating in CTA projects. Her research focuses on treatment for women with Posttraumatic Stress and comorbid conditions including mood, eating and substance use disorders. She has published multiple articles in this area, co-authored a published treatment manual for survivors of childhood sexual abuse, and book on the integration of trauma treatment services for women in substance abuse programs. Dr. Cohen also has a private practice in Manhattan and has expertise in several empirically validated treatments including cognitive behavioral therapy. Dr. Cohen received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Yale University. Her e-mail address is: lc2130@columbia.edu. Aimee Campbell, PhD, is a Research Scientist at the New York State Psychiatric Institution within the Substance Abuse Division. Dr. Campbell has been involved in intervention research since 1995 and has worked with members of the CTA since 2003. She is currently the Project Director for a NIDA Clinical Trials Network national multi-site effectiveness trial of a web-based psychosocial intervention for individuals in outpatient substance abuse treatment. Additional research interests focus on developing multi-level interventions to address physical and mental health needs of drug-involved women and examining innovative dissemination and implementation strategies for empirically supported interventions. She has co-authored multiple papers focused on gender specific issues, including trauma, addiction, sexual risk behavior, and sex work, including a recently published book with colleagues from the CTA, Trauma Services for Women in Substance Abuse Treatment: An Integrated Approach (APA Press).
